Sharing January projects from Jo's club

We are about a week and a half from the February meeting of the Jo's little women's club and I still need to share with you what everyone did last month!  In January we started club 11.  I've been doing this club since part way of club 9. I sure wish I joined so much earlier as I'm so loving being part of this club and working on these wonderful quilts that Jo Morton designs (as well as the fabrics she designs as well!)

I haven't been able to go to a club meeting for the last few months as I was either in the hospital or at home recovering.  So some of the projects I shared were older projects or projects I finished up for my grandma.  When Grandma passed last April, she left behind a lot of unfinished projects. :(  So I took some as well as my aunt and great aunt. I have a couple of her's now finished. And I know she's looking down from Heaven so glad that they are finished and so lovingly cared for and treasured. :)

This was one of those quilts from Grandma.  She had all the blocks done, so I sew'd them all together and added the border and quilted it.  It sits so perfectly on the library card case.  The doll there on the chair Grandma also made for me.

This is the holiday quilt that Grandma had almost done.  All the pieces were cut and the applique was done.  I love this one!

This one is also mine.  I added the applique little witchy sunbonnet girl.

This is one of my favorite quilts right now.  This is called "Folk Art" and it was a free block of the month that Dawn Heese was doing last year.  I used only Jo fabrics.  My aunt quilted this one for me. It's hanging up on a blanket crane in the living room. :)

Looking forward to our next club meeting!  I am finishing up the quilting on the last quilt from club 10, so I'll have that to share at least.  :)

 

Already the end of January

Here we are just a few days away from February and I haven't posted anything since December.  Again I got sick, not as bad as in November, but just haven't been myself.  I went back to the doctor and he wants me to do all my breathing treatments for the next 3 months. :(  Guess it's going to take longer for my lungs to heal.  

It's a good thing that sewing doesn't take that much energy to do! :)  I've been working on many projects this month.  I've finished a few quilts, started some new ones and made progress on some UFO's.

A group of us started a UFO club.  For this we listed every. single. UFO. we have in our sewing rooms/closets/under beds.  You want to know how many I have?  Yeah, it's a crazy number!  I tied with another lady with 51 projects. Yup, fifty one!  Lol.  I have a long way to go.  And that does NOT include projects I want to start or have just patterns for.  Everything on this list is something that has been started somehow.  lol.  Some of the projects I started 10 years ago.  Some I started last month.  I have been able to cross off a few off my list so far.  I'll share those projects with you this weekend.

For today's eye candy I will share with you a pillow I made last month. I've really been enjoying doing redwork and I picked up this pattern at a quilt store in Boise last July.

Thanks for hanging in there with me.  I have it on my agenda to get this blog rolling again.  I miss doing my posts and sharing with you all my creations. :)  Don't lose faith!  I will continue to post! :)

Christmas JOY

It's Wednesday!  And over here it's the day my quilting girls get together and sew! :)  Since the boys are off of school, I'm hosting it at my house!  And what is even better....is that Mark is working at home for half the day and then he has the rest of the year off!!!!  :) :) :)  Yay!!!!

How about a couple of Christmas cards today??  :)

Can't think of title...

It's going to be a quick post today.  I am totally wiped out.  Yesterday Mark and James ventured off to the Niners/Steelers game with Mark's Dad and his sister, along with some friends.  They tailgated all together, then went inside to enjoy the Niners beat the tail off the Steelers (sorry Steelers fans! lol)  Well Andrew and I just watched movies and he had his choice of dinner (McD's).  I had no clue that the game was delayed not once but twice. So when I heard from Mark around 10pm, he said they were stuck literally in the parking lot and it would be awhile before they get home.  Around 1:20am they pulled into the driveway. And me being the worry wart, stayed up until they got home safely.

So this morning, I didn't get to sleep in too late, and poor Mark had maybe 4 hours of sleep before he had to leave for work.  I'm making fudge today (pumpkin, chocolate, and peanut butter) and I'm going to finally dig into the November Christmas card kit from CupCards {to go}. 

But today I'm sharing some more Christmas projects from the past....

Last week before Christmas...

Have you done all your shopping yet?  I am done!  With the help of my wonderful husband most of the shopping was done by him, so I'm a happy girl! All the presents are wrapped as well (that was done by me). :)

The boys are off of school for the next 2 weeks.  James needs to start his mission report project this week as it is due Jan. 5th.  He decided he wants to make a scrapbook.  At first he wanted me to make a quilt, then he said a scrapbook.  Of course I know he wants me to do most of the work.  Silly boy....little does he know that mama is going to give him all the supplies and let him go at it, while I supervise.  The mission he got was Soledad.  Someday we will take him there to visit it.

This last weekend was the quilter's blog hop and I have a winner for the charm pack!

Wrapping up the end of the year

Oh, what 2011 has been. I'm sure ready for 2012!  It's been a hard year here in the Rose household.  From the pneumonia, to breaking my foot, to having foot surgery, to losing my dear Grandma, and  to losing my "job" with Boxer Scrapbook (oh, I forgot to tell you about that). I'm ready to close the chapter book of this year and move on to the next.  Of course we will have one good happy thing to celebrate at the end of the year, but can't say just yet. ;)

As for the "job" thing.  I'm very sad to say that Angie and Vicky have decided to close up Boxer Scrapbook.  I've been with them for 5 years and have enjoyed every minute of it.  I will miss working at the scrapbook expos, I'll miss all the cute designs and products that I got to have fun "working" and designing with and seeing my projects featuring their products in all the magazines!  (course this won't stop me from the publication world, I will still have many projects published as I move forward.  That is one thing I truly do enjoy.).  I will greatly miss seeing Angie and Vicky twice a year and talking quilting.  Guess one of these years, I will just have to drive or fly up to Oregon so we can do a quilt retreat.  Yeah, isn't it funny how they are actually quilters not scrapbookers. :) :)  I just love that!   I wish them nothing but the best and hope that retirement goes well for Vicky and that Angie enjoys being a new bride with her hubby! :)  Love you both!

Next year I am looking forward to spending more time with my hubby and boys. To quilting more with my girlfriends. To spend more time with family. To organize some things in the house. To finish painting the master bathroom.  To once again start paper crafting after quite a few months of a haitus.  And hopefully (cross your fingers) be able to find another paper manufacturer to work for.

I am still on the mend. And feel so much better than I did a month ago.  Again, thank you for the prayers and good thoughts.

I have a few blocks to share today. Some more of the bluework snowmen I have been working on.

 

 

A month ago....

It's been now a month.  A month ago I was in the hospital, in the ICU fighting for my life.  I had no clue really how sick I truly was.  Pneumonia is no laughing matter.  For almost 5 days I laid in bed, not eating, barely drinking water with a 102-104 degree temp.  And finally on the last day where I could not bare it anymore...I went to the ER.  Thank God I did. 

I was told later on, by many doctors and respiratory theripsts that if I waited even just one more day to go to the ER, that I would not have made it.  I was that close to death. :(  Makes me sad.  Makes me upset with myself that I let it go that long before getting myself the care.  Makes me ever so grateful to my heavenly Father for healing me and letting me know that it was not my time just yet.  Makes me appreciate my family and friends much more.  Makes me want to focus on life and what blessings I am given than the stresses of life. Makes me hugs my boys even more. Makes my heart sing each time I see my darling husband Mark. Makes me love more.

After 4 days in the ICU, I was moved upstairs to the hospital wing.  After 5 days of intense, and I mean intense therapy I was finally able to go home. From being on 9 liters of oxygen the first day and slowly going down on the liters, and having breathing treatments every 2 hours and then 3-4 times a day doing a "blow up therapy" (They put a vest on me that blew up and shook my lungs to release all the stuff inside).  Once I got home, I knew I needed to rest. And I was doing that. But only a week later, did I have a severe asthma attack and I had to be rushed back to the ER. I spent 2 more days in the hospital.  :( 

Now I've been home for 2 weeks.  I'm breathing well. All the pnuemonia is gone. I am getting stronger each day.  I still have to be very careful. I can't be around sick people, espcially kids, so I can't be at the boys school for a few months volunteering in the classrooms. :(  But right now I have to focus on getting myself better.  Cause if I learned one thing through all of this is that I have to take care of myself, because if I'm not here, who will take care of my boys and husband.

I do need to again thank everyone who prayed for me.  I honestly did feel all the prayers going around me and I felt the angels near me, protecting me.  I even saw my grandparents there in the hospital.  Makes me miss them so much, but I was so thrilled to know that even they are "gone", they really are still around. :) 

This year has really been a difficult year for me. It's been one thing after another and I hope and pray that 2012 will be better. I do hope to get this blog off the ground again.  I'm ready to start posting projects on here, both quilting and paper crafts.  I hope in the weeks to come that things will fall into place here and that you my readers will again enjoy coming to Paper Roses and seeing all the inspiration I have for you. :)
